Rain Threatens Pakistan-New Zealand T20I Series Opener

As the anticipation builds for the opening clash between Pakistan and New Zealand in the T20I series, weather forecasts are raising concerns. The first two matches of the series, slated for April 18 and April 20, are under the shadow of potential rain showers, potentially impacting the gameplay dynamics.

Rain Threatens Pakistan-New Zealand T20I Series Opener

The series opener, scheduled at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on April 18, faces a 50% chance of rain during the day, with the playing hours from 7-11 PM holding a 45% likelihood of precipitation. Similarly, the second T20I match on April 20 encounters a more daunting forecast with a 70% chance of rain expected, though dropping to 24% during the match hours.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently unveiled the national squad for the upcoming home series against New Zealand, with Babar Azam leading the charge as skipper. Azam’s re-appointment comes in the wake of PCB’s decision to replace Shaheen Shah Afridi from the captaincy role.

The series not only sets the stage for an intense showdown between the two cricketing powerhouses but also serves as a vital preparatory phase for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled for June.

The 17-member squad, meticulously curated by Pakistan’s seven-member national men’s selection committee, features notable comebacks and promising talents. Imad Wasim and Mohammed Amir return to the fold after reversing their retirements from international cricket, following discussions with the PCB.

In a bid to bolster Pakistan’s spin arsenal, Abrar Ahmed and Usama Mir have earned spots in the squad, alongside the inclusion of Karachi-born UAE-based cricketer Usman Khan, owing to his stellar performance in the Pakistan Super League’s ninth edition.

Adding depth to the squad, Multan Sultans fast bowler Muhammad Abbas Afridi and Karachi Kings batter Irfan Khan Niazi have also clinched spots in the 17-member lineup.
