Yousaf Raza Gillani and Saidal Khan Nasir Elected Unopposed as Senate Leaders

ISLAMABAD – In a significant development, Yousaf Raza Gillani of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has been elected unopposed as the Chairman of the Senate, while Saidal Khan Nasir from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has been elected unopposed as the Deputy Chairman of the Senate.

The oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected senators, followed by the election of the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate, took place at the Senate premises in Islamabad. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar administered the oath to the newly elected members and extended his congratulations to them on their appointment.

The Senate saw a smooth transition of power with 18 senators from the PPP, 14 from the PML-N, and 3 from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) taking their oaths. Additionally, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi took the oath as an independent senator, while Faisal Vawda opted not to take the oath.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, entrusted with the responsibility of presiding over the proceedings as the President Officer, facilitated the election process, which saw Gillani and Nasir securing their positions unopposed. The session, scheduled at 12:30 pm, witnessed consensus among the senators, marking a pivotal moment in the Senate’s leadership.
