STZA Board Resumes Meeting After 2-Year Pause

The Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) Board of Governors is meeting today after not meeting for almost two years. Anwar Ul Haq Kakar, the Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, will lead the meeting.

Recently, the government announced the members of the 19-person board for STZA. The Caretaker Federal Cabinet approved these appointments in October, based on recommendations from a 3-member selection committee led by Ahad Cheema, a former adviser to Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar.

The meeting will include the Federal Minister of IT & Telecom, Federal Minister of Finance, Federal Minister of Industries, and federal secretaries from the Ministry of IT, Ministry of Science & Technology, Cabinet Division, Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and members from the private sector.

The STZA Board of Governors aims to boost the industry and increase IT exports. They will discuss strategies to attract investors to the IT sector, aligning with the government’s vision for economic growth.

Sources say that the Special Investment and Facilitation Council (SIFC) is playing a crucial role in addressing long-standing issues. With guidance from the SIFC, STZA is expected to drive growth in IT exports.

The government has set an ambitious target of reaching $10 billion in IT exports by creating a favorable environment for IT companies and investors. STZA plans to provide incentives to IT enterprises and create a business-friendly atmosphere to achieve this goal.
