Restrictions on Media Access as Cipher Case Proceedings Take Place in Jail for Imran Khan

A glass wall has been put up in the Adiala Jail courtroom, stopping the media from talking to the former Prime Minister, Imran Khan. Today, Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain heard the Cipher case at the Special Court of the Official Secrets Act. During the hearing, Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi were kept away from the media by a glass wall.

They couldn’t be charged in the cipher case today, and the hearing will continue until December 13. Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, said that no charges have been filed against Imran Khan yet. He mentioned that the media was not allowed access to the open trial, and despite objections, certain media members were seated far away from the judge.

The lawyer also criticized the rushed trial and mentioned that mistakes from earlier proceedings are being repeated. He highlighted that the trial should have started after a decision from the Divisional Bench of the Islamabad High Court, but it hasn’t been heard yet.
