PTI Asserts SC: ECP Lacks Power to Assess Intraparty Polls

In the recent news from the Supreme Court, they are still talking about the PTI symbol case. Barrister Ali Zafar, who is the main lawyer for the PTI party, said that according to the Constitution and the Election Act, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) does not have the power to check the polls held within a political party.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar asked two important questions: whether the court can change the ECP decision and if the ECP is capable of checking the internal elections of a party.

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa warned the PTI on Friday that there could be consequences if there are problems found in their internal party polls. He reminded everyone that the ECP has a constitutional status, and the court should not interfere in its matters.

The next day, Chief Justice Isa pointed out that the main issue is about democracy within political parties. He said it should be maintained not only at the national level but also within the party structures. The discussions in the court are showing how complex the legal and democratic aspects are in this ongoing case.
