Pakistan’s ICC World Cup Matches May Be Rescheduled

Due to the tournament’s most anticipated game, where India will take on Pakistan on the first day of Navratri, a festival celebrated with mass participation across Gujarat, security agencies have advised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to make changes to the itinerary. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is yet to release a revised schedule, expected by the end of this week. However, it is understood that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has agreed to the proposed changes. Pakistan’s ICC World Cup Matches May Be Rescheduled.

According to sources, Pakistan might now face Sri Lanka on October 10 instead of October 12, and the crucial India-Pakistan clash could be scheduled for October 14 instead of the 15th of the same month. Potential Changes to the Schedule of Two Pakistan ICC World Cup Matches

The ICC had contacted Pakistan and informed them about the need for changes in the schedule. In response, the PCB agreed to the proposal. Matches such as Australia vs South Africa, England vs Afghanistan, and New Zealand vs Bangladesh might also be rescheduled a day earlier. The venue for these matches will remain the same, but the games will take place on October 10 instead of October 12, allowing Pakistan a sufficient gap between the two matches.

It’s important to note that the match venues will not change; only the dates have been altered. The ICC is expected to announce the updated schedule soon. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host both the tournament opener and the final.

Pakistan’s ICC World Cup Fixtures Under Consideration for Rescheduling

The need for this schedule change arose due to the original date for the India-Pakistan fixture coinciding with the first day of the Hindu festival of Navaratri. Local police were concerned about providing adequate security on that day. Thus, security agencies advised the BCCI to alter the itinerary considering the mass participation in Navaratri across Gujarat, which falls on October 15 when the crucial Pakistan vs India match was initially set to take place.

October 6  vs Netherlands in Hyderabad
October 10  vs Sri Lanka in Hyderabad
October 14  vs India in Ahmedabad
October 20  vs Australia in Bengaluru
October 23  vs Afghanistan in Chennai
October 27  vs South Africa in Chennai
October 31  vs Bangladesh in Kolkata
November 4  vs New Zealand Bengaluru (Day match)
November 12  vs England in Kolkata

The day matches will start at 10:00 am Pakistan Standard Time (PST), while all other matches will be day-night fixtures starting at 01:30 pm (PST). BCCI secretary Jay Shah, however, clarified that the clash with Navaratri was not the reason for the change. If India qualifies for the semi-finals, they will play in Mumbai, unless against Pakistan, in which case the match will be held in Kolkata. The rescheduling of the India-Pakistan match will likely have implications for other games and teams.
