Pakistan Shaheens Ready for ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup

Colombo, July 13, 2023: The defending champions, Pakistan Shaheens, are fully prepared to begin their journey in the ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup. They will face Nepal at the Colombo Cricket Club Ground in Sri Lanka on Friday. This edition of the tournament marks the fifth installment. Leading the Sri Lanka-A side will be Dunith Wellalage, with a squad of 19 players announced by Bangladesh’s board, headed by Saif Hassan, featuring a combination of the best domestic and international players. Group A consists of Afghanistan A, Bangladesh A, Oman A, and Sri Lanka A, while Group B comprises Pakistan Shaheens, India A, Nepal, and UAE A. The competition will showcase ‘A’ teams from the five full members of the Asian Cricket Council, namely India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, along with the top three teams from the 2023 ACC Men’s Premier Cup: Nepal, UAE, and Oman.

Mohammad Haris will captain the Pakistan Shaheens in this tournament, with Omair Bin Yousuf serving as his deputy. Pathirana, who was a member of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad that won the IPL 2023 championship earlier this year under the leadership of MS Dhoni, is also part of the team. Following their match against Nepal, led by Mohammad Haris, the Shaheens will face UAE A on July 17 at the P Saravanamuttu Stadium. Their final group match will be against India A on July 19 at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.

Before arriving in Colombo on Tuesday night, the Shaheens underwent a six-day training camp at Lahore’s National Cricket Academy. India A is placed in Group B along with Nepal, UAE A, and Pakistan A, while Sri Lanka A, Bangladesh A, Afghanistan A, and Oman A form Group A. The team is now focused on the ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, and players like Rohit Kumar Paudel, Sompal Kami, Kushal Bhurtel, and Asif Sheikh have been selected to represent Nepal in the tournament.
