Kosovo, Qatar considering to waive visa requirements

To strengthen their relationship, Qatar and Kosovo are thinking about allowing each other’s citizens to visit without needing a visa. This decision comes after a friendly phone call between Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani and Qatar’s Amir Tamim bin Hammad Al Thani. President Osmani thanked Amir Al Thani for Qatar’s ongoing support and called him a great friend and ally.

Even though there are currently visa restrictions, Qatar and Kosovo have a history of successful cooperation with agreements in various sectors. During their talk, President Osmani and Amir Al Thani discussed plans to enhance Kosovo’s global recognition and create more investment opportunities. The mutual decision to remove visa requirements aims to make it easier for people to visit each other, fostering cultural and economic connections.

This step follows Kosovo’s recent achievement of visa-free travel to the European Union’s Schengen Zone, effective since January 1 of this year. This positive trend continues as non-EU countries, like the United Arab Emirates, have also lifted visa restrictions for Kosovo citizens on January 11, following a proposal from President Vjosa Osmani. Although Kosovo’s passport ranking is 68th according to the Henley Passport Index 2024, with access to 74 visa-free destinations, this reflects the growing strength of Kosovo’s international relations through diplomatic successes and strategic partnerships.
