Japan Extends Generous Grants to Enhance Pakistan’s Weather Monitoring and Healthcare Infrastructure

In a significant development, a signing ceremony for the Exchange of Notes and Grant Agreements between the Governments of Pakistan and Japan took place, marking the initiation of two vital grant-in-aid projects. Titled “Installation of Weather Surveillance Radar in Sukkur City” and “The Extension of Maternal and Child Health Care Facilities in Sindh,” these projects aim to bolster crucial sectors in Pakistan.

The Government of Japan has allocated substantial additional grants amounting to JPY 832 million ($5.4 million) for the “Installation of Weather Surveillance Radar in Sukkur City” and JPY 671 million ($4.4 million) for “The Extension of Maternal and Child Health Care Facilities in Sindh.” This generous support underscores Japan’s commitment to fostering development and enhancing the quality of life in Pakistan.

These projects are strategically designed to enhance the capabilities of the Pakistan Meteorological Department in meteorological observation, weather forecasting, and the dissemination of forecasts and warnings. Additionally, they seek to fortify medical services, particularly in children’s hospitals and Maternal and Child Health (MCH) centers in Liaqat University Hospital, Hyderabad/Jamshoro, Sindh.

The signing ceremony saw the exchange of notes and agreements by key representatives from both nations. Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary of the Economic Affairs Division (EAD), and WADA Mitsuhiro, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, facilitated the exchange, expressing mutual commitment towards realizing the projects’ objectives.

Dr. Kazim Niaz conveyed his appreciation to the Government and people of Japan for their invaluable support, pledging to facilitate seamless cooperation between the two sides. Meanwhile, WADA Mitsuhiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Pakistan reiterated Japan’s dedication to nurturing friendly ties and enhancing bilateral cooperation with Pakistan.
