IHC Halts Imran Khan's Cipher Case Trial Until January 11th

The Islamabad High Court has said that the trial against former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the cipher case will be put on hold until January 11. The court made this decision after hearing a plea against Imran Khan and PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the cipher case. The PTI disagreed with the trial court’s decision on December 12 to charge Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood in this case.

Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb gave the order for today’s hearing. The court agreed to stop the cipher trial immediately and postponed the case proceedings until January 11. The court also told the federal government to submit all necessary documents for the next hearing.

Instead of the complaint, the court also issued notices on the petition against the FIR (First Information Report). On December 12, former Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were charged in the cipher case. The trial took place in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, under the Official Secrets Act. Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain read out the charges, but the accused denied them. The court asked for evidence from the prosecution, and the charges were filed under three counts of the Official Secrets Act.
