Finance Ministry Allocates Rs17.4 Billion for Elections 2024 Preparation

The Ministry of Finance gave Rs17.4 billion to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday. This is in addition to the Rs10 billion they gave in July 2023 for the upcoming general elections. So far, a total of Rs27.4 billion has been given for conducting the elections.

The Finance Division stated that they are committed to providing more funds if needed by the Election Commission. The Caretaker Information Minister, Murtaza Solangi, reassured the public that there is no financial crisis affecting the ECP’s preparations for the February 8 polls. He clarified that all the money needed for the elections will be released promptly, contradicting reports of a funding shortfall.

The government is committed to ensuring free and fair elections, as stated by the minister, referring to Article 218(3) of the constitution. The ECP has sought the services of the armed forces to maintain security during the polling process, considering the current security situation in the country.
