FBR Completes Plan to Implement Sales Tax on Retailers in Major Cities

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is getting ready to put a sales tax on shops in big cities like Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta.

According to sources from FBR, they believe this plan will bring in a lot of money, around Rs. 100 billion, from shops in these big cities. If they apply this tax to shops all over the country, they expect to make even more – up to Rs. 300 billion.

FBR is looking at about 3.5 million shops all over the country for this new idea. They will start by taxing shops in Islamabad and the four main cities in the provinces.

FBR aims to collect a total of more than Rs. 300 billion from this tax. They will consider things like the shop’s size and how much money they make in a year.

Sources say the sales tax will be based on how big the business is and how much it earns each year. Shop owners will need to pay this tax every month. The plan is ready to go, but it’s waiting for approval from the federal government.
