The top general of the army, Syed Asim Munir, met with the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, during his visit to the United States.

According to the Pakistan Army Public Relations (ISPR), UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the visit of the Chief of Army Staff, Syed Asim Munir. He appreciated the cooperation of the Pakistan army and law enforcement agencies for global peace and stability.

During the meeting, Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to support all United Nations efforts. He also discussed the situations in Kashmir and Gaza, stating that peace in South Asia is not possible until a peaceful solution is found to the longstanding Kashmir conflict, following UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The Army Chief also condemned India’s unilateral and illegal efforts to change the status of Jammu and Kashmir, stating that this move by India is a violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s position on the Palestine issue, General Syed Asim Munir stated that the UN Secretary-General should mobilize the international community for the immediate end of the Israeli war in Gaza to prevent a humanitarian tragedy. He emphasized that a sustainable solution lies in a two-state resolution.

According to ISPR, the Army Chief expressed concern about the plight of innocent Palestinians who are facing brutal attacks by the Israeli army and are not receiving adequate humanitarian aid.

Subsequently, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres thanked Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir for his visit to the UN headquarters.
