Customs Transformation: FBR Unveils 16 Specialized Working Groups

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is making big changes to the Customs Department. They want to improve laws, and procedures, and replace the Web-Based One Customs (WeBOC) system.

The FBR has set up 16 groups to help with this. Each group will focus on a specific part of Customs operations. Some of these groups will handle things like Appraisement, Preventive measures (like stopping smuggling), and managing exports.

The FBR wants to change the way Pakistan Customs works, and they’re getting help from international consultants. These consultants will look at how things currently work and suggest a new digital system to replace WeBOC. They will also help with changing laws and procedures.

To manage this important work, the FBR has a Project Implementation Committee (PIC). Different Working Groups are also helping, and each group has a specific job within Pakistan Customs.

The main goal of these Working Groups is to review what the consultants suggest. They will check if the recommendations are good for their specific areas of work.

Revamped System: Exchange Companies’ New Exchange Rate Method

It’s important to note that the money to pay the international consultants comes from the World Bank’s Pakistan Raises Revenue project, specifically from the Technical Assistance part.
