Alfa Romeo Teases New 6C Sports Car

The upcoming car, widely believed to be the 6C, is set to become Alfa’s new flagship sports car. The unveiling date is scheduled for August 30, 2023, at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese. However, at present, we have limited information regarding what lies beneath the covers on that momentous day. Mesonero-Romanos stated, “Our next-generation cars will reintroduce the Coda Tronca into the contemporary design language. This not only aims to enhance aerodynamic efficiency and range but also infuse the vehicles with a distinctively classical Alfa Romeo design character,” as reported by Autocar. The 6C is expected to draw heavily from the Maserati MC20, with current plans, yet to be confirmed, to utilize its Nettuno V6 engine. Alternatively, Alfa Romeo’s own V6, as used in the Giulia Quadrifoglio, could be employed. By incorporating the ‘Coda Tronca’ design into the next generation of Alfa Romeo cars, the brand aims to improve aerodynamic efficiency, thus extending the driving range of electric vehicles, while also paying homage to iconic elements of the company’s design heritage.

Alfa Romeo Provides Glimpse of Potential Upcoming 6C Sports Car

The new 6C will be constructed around Dallara’s carbon-fiber chassis, featuring bodywork inspired by classic racing Alfas from the 1960s and 1970s. Alfa Romeo has maintained a high level of secrecy around this project, but Imparato provided a tantalizing clue, stating, “This project is a dream come true, inspired by a daring team that sought to achieve something truly unique.” However, Mesonero-Romanos cautioned against excessive reliance on historical design, advising Autocar UK, “As designers, we must be careful not to draw too heavily from the past. Similar to chefs, we need to blend classic ingredients into a ‘new sauce’ that resonates with today’s generation.”

It is also probable that the 6C will follow the footsteps of the MC20 and venture into the realm of electric vehicles. The words “daring,” “unique,” and “a dream” certainly generate excitement. Additionally, the timing of the reveal, coinciding with the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, further adds to the anticipation. Mesonero-Romanos mentioned, “We mustn’t forget that the announcement being made in China is not a coincidence. It underscores the brand’s focus on this geographical area and its ambition to achieve 40 percent of sales outside of Europe.”

Mesonero-Romanos also emphasized the significance of the Coda Tronca, stating, “It will be a valuable ingredient for us, and you will see it in several future models.” Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato made the announcement during a presentation of the new Giulia and Stelvio in China, confirming that a brand-new car would be unveiled on August 30, 2023, at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, Milan.
