Former President Asif Ali Zardari filed a request in the Supreme Court in April 2011 regarding this matter. The hearing started with Attorney General Pakistan Mansoor Usman and Farooq H. Naik speaking. The Chief Justice mentioned that the proceedings are being broadcast live on the Supreme Court website and YouTube. He thanked Farooq H Naik for arranging the live broadcast.

The Chief Justice emphasized the significance of the hearing, stating that it involves a presidential reference. The Attorney General began by stating that the reference consists of 15 pages. The Chief Justice asked what the President wanted from them in the reference.

The Attorney General explained that the case was last heard in 2012, and Lawal Bhutto applied to be a party. The Chief Justice suggested hearing it as an heir and as a debatable political party. The court recorded the names of the lawyers involved in the reference.
